Jocelyn Harper began her software engineering career in January 2016 after completing a 12-week coding bootcamp focused on Java and JavaScript. Before graduating, she secured a position as a Java developer at J.P. Morgan Chase, where she worked primarily in fintech until 2022.
In 2019, Jocelyn launched her “Git Cute Podcast,” offering insights into her experiences as a senior software engineer. She also self-published A Software Engineer’s Guide to Seniority, which was later republished by Apress. This success led to speaking engagements across the U.S. and guest spots on prominent podcasts, including Microsoft’s 8-Bit, The Stack Overflow Podcast, and Arrested DevOps.
After her fintech career, Jocelyn joined The New York Times as a tech lead and staff software engineer, where she led efforts to overhaul testing and standardization. She has since built a large social media following, sharing her tech journey and advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Currently, Jocelyn is focusing on optimization, infrastructure in her next role, and writing her second book while enjoying time between roles.

In 2019, Jocelyn started Git Cute and published her first podcast ‘Git Cute Podcast’, a retrospective into the best topics and tactics to have as a software engineer that was now a senior. From the momentum of a successful, international podcast, she started working and eventually self-published A Software Engineer’s Guide to Seniority before it was republished by Apress later that year. It was with this momentum that Jocelyn’s amassed and gave technical talks across the country and was a guest on several notable technical podcasts.

After she ended her career in fintech with Fortune 500 companies Capital One and PayPal, her last notable venture was as a tech lead and staff software engineer for the Care Platform team at The New York Times, Jocelyn focused on leading a large systemic overhaul of a vastly improving testing and implementing standardization not only in her org but across The Times. Over the last 8 years, Jocelyn has amassed a social media following that spans across Twitter, Tiktok, Instagram, a newsletter, and more. There, she shares her journey throughout tech and stands deeply, committed to her efforts in highlighting the need for diversity, equality, and inclusion in tech.
Now, Jocelyn is a staff software engineer enjoying time off between roles and working in her current focus of optimization, infrastructure, standardization, and of course Java, while working on her second book.
